Samuel-Ukah’s family accuses the Nigerian Police of being corrupt accomplice to the murder of the patriarch of the family. The police reneges arresting the alleged murderer, Austin Okechuwu and accomplices despite what the grieving family claims to be a plethora of evidence pointing to Austin as the murderer.

It was gathered that Austin murdered his former father-in-law because the father would not allow his daughter to reunite with him [Austin] in the marriage.

DaVinciBLOG gathered that Winniefred Samuel-Ukah, the daughter of the deceased was forced into an arranged marriage at the age of 17 with Austin Okechukwu in 2004. When the marriage became violent, Winniefred with the backing of her family, forced herself out of the marriage on 24th March, 2016. Austin wouldn’t have it, and in a fit of rage, threatened, If he didn’t have her, no one else would.

According to the brother of Winniefred, Paul Church Samuel-Ukah, for the years Winniefred lived with her enstranged husband, Austin she suffered immense violence including repeated rape.

“My sister experienced the worst atrocities living with Austin. He abused Winniefred in manners not befitting for any human being and for any female. Austin treated her like a modern-day slave.” he lamented.

Paul further revealed that Austin in desperation to get Winniefred back, continued to harass and threaten the family on the whereabouts of Winniefred.

“He threatened us to our faces that if he does not have Winniefred back as his wife he will murder all of us starting with our father.” paul stated.

On July 29, 2017, Mr. Okoruku Samuel-Ukah was found murdered in his home, butchered to death in his own bed with neck slashed, probably with a knife and defensive wounds on his arms, probably showing resistance. His wife discovered her husband in a pool of blood and has not recovered from the shock.

Neighbors testified to spotting Austin and probable accomplices at the Samuel-Ukah’s home that morning of July 29, 2017 . Others testified to seeing them flee the residence of the deceased with blood splattered all over them.

To this Paul angrily asked, “What kind of man would rape his wife in front of his boys and expect the wife to still want to be with him? When the wife does not return to him, he brutally murdered the wife’s father blaming the father-in-law for the wife leaving him,”

Paul informed us that the police only visited the crime scene once and never returned. They endlessly tried to get the police to investigate and bring the accused, Austin and his accomplices to justice but justice still eludes the family.

When the police was contacted to inquire about the case and the allegations made against Austin by the Samuel-Ukah family, the police turned us away stating that they had better security issues to deal with.

It is alleged that Austin Okechuwu has contacts within the Nigeria Police and the local government.

It is shocking to get such response from the police when it is their duty to protect and serve. “The police has not done anything for us to get justice” , a member of the Samuel-Ukah’s family who pleaded anonymity pointed out.

On the whereabouts of Winniefred, Paul revealed that she fears for her life living in Nigeria and she was forced to flee Nigeria to save her life.

He said because Austin murdered her father and continues to pursue her in order to act on his terrorist threats, she does not want to become another statistics. (sic)

“Now that our father has been murdered and the murderers walk the Lagos streets free with impunity, my sister fears for her life even more. Austin has the notoriety to murder again” Paul retorted.

When questioned as to the specific country his sister, Winniefred fled to, he stopped short of naming the country. He told us that she is in a place where Austin Okechukwu cannot harm her. “She is safe and protected wherever she is”, he stated.

It can be stated that the factors underlying impunity in Nigeria are many and include legal and institutional weaknesses, social mores and attitudes, corruption, lack of will or diligence on the part of officials both at the local and national levels, and logistical constraintIt is alleged that Austin Okechuwu has contacts within the Nigeria Police and the local government.
