An odd new fad is working its way through the teens of Indonesia — one that might make you question your own decisions as a teen.

Kids get high on sanitary pads

These kids are reportedly using sanitary pads and other products, boiling them, and drinking the water to obtain a high. The pads don’t always seem to be used — while some are — but the whole thing is just an odd look at the lengths some kids will go to find a new high.

Teenagers in Indonesia are boiling used sanitary pads and drinking the resulting liquid in attempts to get high, it today emerged.

The process itself might make you gag, but the high is reportedly worth it for some of these kids according to LAD Bible:

“…the resulting broth that you get from boiling up used tampons and sanitary pads offers the drinker a feeling of flying and has hallucinogenic properties.

A representative from the National Narcotics Agency, Senior Commander Suprinarto, said that the presence of chlorine in the mixture is what gives it the effects that it possesses.

He is quoted in the Straits News as saying: “The used pads they took from the trash were put in boiling water. After it cooled down, they drank it together,”

Indonesia is well known for having very strong laws against drug offenses, typically applying the death penalty to drug traffickers, drug dealers, and people caught with illegal drugs in a high amount.

It’s a risk to fool around with the drug trade in Indonesia — not that it has stopped many from operating in the business. But as of now, the act these kids are doing is not illegal.

If you’re out boiling new or used sanitary pads to ingest the magic “drugs” inside, you’re essentially the new taking part in the new “toad licking” phenomenon.

While you can lick a toad and feel a bit of a high, you probably shouldn’t do it.
