Naira Marley Appears in Court, to be remanded till May 30

Today, Naira Marley appeared before the Federal High Court in Lagos, where he pleaded not guilty to all 11 charges bordering on fraud and cybercrime.

Photos of musician, Naira Marley in court looking subdued has surfaced on social media as he is being arraigned by the EFCC.

The musician who looked humble and subdued was spotted standing before a panel.

It was alleged that his mother broke down in tears after sighting him in court.  

The singer is being tried on 11 count charges preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in relation to fraud.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo ordered the remand of Naira Marley in prison.

On May 30, the singer’s bail application proceeding would be heard to determine if he’d be out of EFCC’s custody until judgement is served on a later date.

According to the EFCC, some of the items recovered from Naira Marley which were presented as exhibits include; credit cards which bore the names- Nicole Louise Malyon, and Timea Fedorne Tatar.

If found guilty by the anti-graft agency, the rapper risks a seven-year jail term according to Section 33 (2) of the Nigerian law which states that: “Any person who uses: a counterfeit access device; an unauthorised access device; an access device issued to another person; resulting in a loss or gain commits an offence and shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of not more than seven years or a fine of not more than N5,000,000.00 and forfeiture of the advantage or value derived from his act.”
