Manchester United thrashed Chelsea 4-0 on the opening weekend of the Premier League season to leave Frank Lampard miserable in his first competitive match as Blues manager.

Chelsea threatened early and took a control in the  midfield and the game generally, pressing high up the pitch as Tammy Abraham’s shot struck the woodwork, Emerson’s

shot hit the crossbar in the second half as well.

A rash challenge from  Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma took out Marcus Rashford in the box before the United man stepped forward and drove the penalty into the top corner to stem the Blues’ early momentum.

One would think Manchester United were lucky to score a penalty in the first half against the run of play, but Chelsea never really recovered and conceded three more goals in the second half. One more from Rashford, one from Martial and substitute James.

Over the past couple of campaigns, the Blues have been no strangers to a heavy defeat, with a 4-0 loss to Bournemouth and 6-0 hammering by Manchester City last season.

Of course, Blues supporters would have hoped those days were over and especially not to see it so early in the campaign.

But while Maurizio Sarri was vilified for the performances, there was a completely different atmosphere as the goals went in yesterday.

One of the big things that Sarri was criticised for was his lack of approach to the Chelsea fans. Never did the Italian head over to the travelling Blues fans, if they won or lost.

However, Lampard, being a club legend, has a different attitude towards the Blues supporters and went straight over to the away fans at Old Trafford.
