Have you taken the vaccine against COVID-19? If not, the chances of getting the first jab are on the high side now. Nigeria has received the first batch of 300,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses out of the 1 million doses from the African Union. This was made possible by the $25 million donation by the MTN group.
It is also interesting to know that health workers in Nigeria, who are at a higher risk of contracting the virus will be prioritised in the distribution of the vaccines by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency.
While speaking at the arrival of the vaccines, Dr Faisal Shuaib, Director-General of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHDA) expressed gratitude at the gesture of MTN. He stated that the gesture will boost the efforts of the government to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. He urged other well-meaning Nigerians and organizations to support in the fight against the pandemic.
MTN Nigeria CEO, Karl Toriola, thanked the government and the African Union for the opportunity to collaborate towards securing the vaccines. “We are truly privileged to have been able to play our part in contributing towards the government’s efforts to protect and save lives.” he said.
